Veneers can be a great solution if there are aspects of your smile which you would like to improve. In this age of Instagram, Facebook and smartphone cameras, you only ever seem to be a few minutes away from being in a snap and, like many people, you may feel uncomfortable with a gap in your teeth, discolouration, a chip or missing tooth.
Veneers can solve each of these problems, with a permanent (normally at least ten years) procedure which gives you a thin but incredibly hard porcelain covering to your front teeth creating that perfect smile. For some, veneers are a must have accessory; for others they are the answer to a problem which has nagged them for years.
Veneers are a tooth-by-tooth solution. So depending on your need, you can have a single veneer – say to cover up a chipped tooth, or complete upper and lower sets for your front teeth. There are also different veneer materials which may lend themselves better to certain budgets, or to what you are trying to achieve: composite veneers which are lower cost, and feldspathic or Emax porcelain veneers which cost more but provide a better finish and greater durability.

We will prepare your tooth or teeth for the veneer at our surgery in Salford, Greater Manchester. This normally requires a minor filing of your teeth which removes a thin layer of enamel so that the veneer can be attached. Don’t worry, there are no nerves in your enamel so it shouldn’t hurt.
Using a 3D scanner or soft putty tray we will take an impression of your mouth so that the veneer can be designed perfectly for you. We will supply you with a temporary veneer which you can use while the permanent veneer is created in the lab.
We invite you back in to have your permanent veneer fitted. We will use a strong dental glue to do this, fine-tuning the fitting so that it is just right.

If you have severe structural damage to your teeth they are unlikely to be appropriate. You will need to have good oral health before the treatment can begin. This means that if you have minor conditions such as mild gum disease or a cavity, these must be treated first.
Once you have veneers, you take care of them in much the same way as you would your regular teeth. Brush them twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, floss/use interdental brushes and take regular trips to the dentist.
Yes, depending on what you are trying to achieve there may be a range of alternatives to veneers.
We offer clear aligners at The Dental Sanctuary. So it could be that the most comprehensive alternative will be orthodontically straightening your teeth, which can improve the position and appearance of your teeth, followed by professional whitening, and composite edge bonding if required.
A minor chip, discoloration, or gap may be fixed by composite bonding. This is where a resin is applied to an affected tooth. It is quick and non-invasive.
To address stained teeth, professional teeth whitening or air polishing are also options. Ask us about these.
Crowns are another solution with similarities to veneers. A tooth-shaped cap is slotted over the entire visible portion of the target tooth to create the desired aesthetic and functional effect.
